The Japanese tea ceremony, also called the Way of Tea, is a Japanese cultural activity involving the ceremonial preparation and presentation of matcha, powdered green tea. In Japanese, it is called chanoyu (茶の湯) or chadō (茶道). The manner in which it is performed, or the art of its performance, is called otemae (お点前?). Zen Buddhism was a primary influence in the development of the tea ceremony. Tea gatherings are classified as ochakai (お茶会?) or chaji (茶事?). Chakai is a relatively simple course of hospitality that includes the service of confections, thin tea (薄茶 usucha?), and perhaps a light meal (点心 tenshin?). Chaji is a more formal gathering, usually with a full-course meal (kaiseki), followed by confections, thick tea (濃茶 koicha), and thin tea. A chaji may last up to four hours.

お久しぶりです。 Yes, the rumors are true, I am in Japan and have been since 2/27. This time it is for work and travel. Currently, I am self-employed as a freelance translator/proofreader/neighborhood pet-sitter (woo hoo)! Working as a translator/interpreter/Japanese market developer for a local dried fruit processor in my hometown area. It is a great opportunity and I hope it turns into something bigger. Also, I am hoping to get back to Japan on a more permanent basis if possible in the near future. Its home to me. Had a great time with Kansai PJ and BusanKevin last night at the Kansai YouTube Meetup. Enjoyed meeting many new YouTubers who are carrying on the foreigners blogging in Japan legacy. Hope to vlog more in the future.

A short video of my trip to Shitennoji Temple in Tennoji and the area around it. I'm not sure if calling it Tennoji Temple is also correct or not. This video was taken a day or two before the last videos I put up, but It feels better to put it up now and not before.

Japan is reeling from a 20-year economic slump, and has recently been surpassed by China as the world's second-largest economy. What the Japanese call the "lost years" have taken a serious toll on some of the country's most beloved cultural icons, including the Geisha. Instead of charging several hundred dollars for tea, dancing and artful conversation, many now have to look for other ways to make a living.
